The Balance and Spring, Part I: General Principles" by Mr. R.A. Fell, M.A. (formerly Head of the National College of Horology, London) and Watch Component Cleaning Assisted by the Mechanical Action of Ultrasonic Vibrations" by L. Defossez. - Two original magazine articles (magazine clippings) which were removed from a 1955 Swiss magazine.

Text in the articles is in English.

The articles include technical information which may be of interest to the watch repairer / horologist.

Starting with the article on watch component cleaning: text along the side of the article title reads:

"The Industrial Research Section of the Physics Department of the Federal Polytechnic Institute (abbreviated A.F.I.F.) has, at the request of the C.I.M., developed a new process for cleaning watch components. The combined efforts of the technical personnel of C.I.M. and those of A.F.I.F. have resulted, after several years of effort, in the process which is described below.

"This furnishes a fresh example of the fruitfulness of intelligent collaboration between scientists and horological engineers."

This article is 7 pages in length (on 4 sheets of paper) and includes some small black and white images within the text. The article includes technical information which may be of interest to the watch repairer / horologist.

The second article is titled "The Balance and Spring." This article is "Part I: General Principles" and is part of a series of articles. (Other articles in the series would have been included in later publications of the magazine. They are not included.)

Under the title, there is a short article summary which reads:

"Summary: Introduction; some definitions and relationships; energy consideration; simple harmonic motion; damping; rate of dissipation of energy; elasticity; C.G.S. units; effect of changes in dimensions and Youngs Modulus - regulation - manufacturing tolerances - temperature errors; table of commonly encountered values."

[The above summary is of items included in this article. Future articles in the series would have covered other issues.]

This magazine article is 7 pages in length (on 4 sheets of paper) and includes a few small diagrams within the text. The opening page of this article falls on the reverse side of the previous article (thus the two articles may not be separated). The article includes technical information which may be of interest to the watch repairer / horologist.

The magazine articles were carefully removed from a Swiss magazine.

[Please note: these are magazine articles/magazine clippings only; no watch, clock, parts or tools are included.]

As with most vintage magazine clippings, there is yellowing to the paper due to age as well as light wear and small bends.

The magazine articles were carefully removed directly from a Swiss magazine. They are not a copies or reproductions. The rest of the magazine is not included.

[Please note: these are magazine articles/magazine clippings only; no watch, clock, parts or tools are included.]
