"Societe Suisse de Chronometrie: Definition of the word chronometer" by L. Defossez - Original magazine article (magazine clipping) which was removed from a 1950 Swiss magazine.
Text in the article is in English.
The opening paragraph of the article is:
"The term chronometer has undergone a number of changes in its usage in the course of some centuries, and today it is hard to define exactly what one means by it. The word chronometer itself is in part responsible for this state of affairs, and when used unqualified it is exceedingly vague and has to be given certain attributes to define it in any particular case. A chronometer is basically a time measurer, but such a definition is fulfilled by a sundial, a water clock or, for that matter, any kind of time-keeper at all."
The closing paragraph of the article reads:
"Whatever may be its composition the Commission would be asked to present the result of its deliberations to the Annual Meeting of the Societe Suisse de Chronometrie in 1951, and this body would take what decisions appeared satisfactory. The present situation is so confused that it is exceedingly important to adopt a proper definition for this much disputed word. The Societe Suisse de Chronometrie is interested in this matter and it would do well to maintain its interest as this is not one of those problems which will solve itself if left to do so."
The magazine article was carefully removed from a Swiss magazine.
[Please note: this is a magazine article/magazine clipping only; no watch, clock, parts or tools are included.]
The article is 2 pages in length (on 1 sheet of paper, front and back).
As with most vintage magazine clippings, there is some yellowing to the paper due to age as well as light wear and small bends.
The magazine article was carefully removed directly from a Swiss magazine. It is not a copy or reproduction. The rest of the magazine is not included.
[Please note: this is a magazine article/magazine clipping only; no watch, clock, parts or tools are included.]
